JVC Everio X: Hands on at the PMA Unveiling
LAS VEGAS - Yesterday on the Las Vegas Convention Center floor there was quite a bit of buzz about JVC's upcoming Everio X digital camcorder. Early this morning we had a chance to get our hands on it and take a look and test out some of its new functions. The most noteworthy feature on the Everio X is certainly its ability to capture a 5 megapixel photo while it is recording HD video. Additionally, it has a solid feature set sure to appeal to home video enthusiasts. To take advantage of the new simultaneous video and photo capture, you simply press the shutter button mid-video, and the Everio X captures an image without so much as causing the video to hiccup. When the Everio X is in photo capture mode, it captures images at 9 megapixels.

We had the chance to try out the Everio X in person, and after a few moments, we have to say, the term "hybrid" seems quite justified. Some other key features that caught our attention include:
- 1920x1080 Full HD video
- weighs a half of a pound
- 60 fps continuous stills
- up to 600 fps recording for slow-motion video
- 5x optical zoom
- SD card slot
Like many other digital video cameras these days, the Everio X features a One Touch Upload to YouTube function; all that's required of the end user is simply connecting to a PC via USB cable (the Everio has no wi-fi functionality) and clicking "upload."
While we'd have to wait for a chance to use it in our own homes, the JVC Everio X's loading dock seems to be a great way to charge and interface with the camera.
The Everio X won't be on store shelves until Summer and will cost a hefty $1,000.
