The Panasonic HC-V720 is one of the best HD camcorders when it comes to video recording quality. It records video content in 1080p, considered full high definition. That is on par with the top ranked high definition video cameras. It will also record video at 60 frames per second (FPS). Recording more frames per second is better for picture quality because it captures more details, and slow-motion video playback is better because you have captured more detail; consequently, more frames are shown during playback.

This camcorder also sports a 21x optical zoom. While this isn't the greatest optical zoom among the cameras we reviewed, it also isn't the worst. A high optical zoom just means the lens will move toward the object. A digital zoom, on the other hand, magnifies and crops the image (like in Photoshop), and maxing out the digital zoom will most likely compromise the video quality of the image. The V720 touts a 1500x digital zoom. The digital zoom sounds nice; however, to keep an image looking crisp, it's best to stay within the camcorder's 50x extended zoom — a combination of the max 21x optical zoom and 29x magnification of the digital zoom. If you need a little more optical zoom, you can opt for a different camcorder in the V series that has up to a 50x optical zoom.

For being such a feature-heavy camcorder, this camcorder is not actually heavy at all. It weighs in at less than half a pound and has a nice body that fits in the palm of your hand. This handheld camcorder is conveniently lightweight, and it is also a portable camcorder that would be easy to pack around on vacations. There is also a 3-inch LCD touchscreen for easy menu navigation and video watching on the camcorder itself.
