The Sony HDR-SR10 offers a full resolution high definition picture (1920x1080) that records to a built in 40GB hard disk drive to eliminate the need for tapes. The HDR-SR10 also leaves open the possibility to write to a memory stick if that better suits your needs. Inside the camera is Sony’s newly developed 2.3 megapixel CMOS sensor that provides sharp, detailed and colorful video as well as a 4.0 megapixel still image. All of this is achieved using less power mainly due to the use of the CMOS sensor.
Also incorporated into this well packaged, mid size video camera is the Face Detection capability that will automatically focus and meter for a face when it detects one. This feature will also cause the microphone to “zoom in” on the subject to pick up better audio.

Other Reviews From Across the Internet
Experts have been surprised at how well the Face Detection feature works. During one test at a birthday party, the feature exceeded expectations despite the number of children coming in and out of the frame, the camera kept up. The same cannot be said for the “zooming” microphone that is supposed to hone in on the subject as well. Reviewers have also noticed that the microphone picks up noise from the wind.
While this camera is slightly more expensive than other entry level high definition camcorders, it does offer a wide array of features. All in all, it is a fair asking price for what the customer is getting. Price: around $1000.
Summary
Customers have noticed and appreciated the sharp images and amazing colors that this camera produces. Others have commented on the ease of use and the usefulness of having a hard disk drive as opposed to tapes. A consistent complaint has been the need to use the docking station to interface with the computer or charge the batteries, something that has not been made a secret in the advertising. It should also be noted that with HD video in general, you will probably need some peripheral components and software to edit and store your video unless you plan to plug the camera into television for viewing and delete it afterwards.
