The Flip Ultra continues the evolution of Pure Digital’s straight to web video cameras. The Ultra can record up to 60 minutes of VGA quality video which can now be easily reviewed on the 1.46” LCD display. Flip upgraded the LCD for this model to a transflective screen, allowing for easier viewing in bright daylight. The new version features pause, rewind and fast forward buttons for in camera review and quick deletion of unwanted clips. The Ultra weighs a mere 5 ounces, so you’ll hardly notice it when it is tucked away in your pocket or bag.
The Ultra features a flip out USB plug for easy connection to your computer. One difference with the Ultra over the Mino is the use of AA batteries instead of the built in battery. Most everything you need comes built into this camera, including the 2Gb of flash memory. No cords, no cards and no fuss.
Standout Features
Features
This ultra slim camcorder features a ¼” CMOS sensor at its heart for better power management. This camera is a little larger that the Mino, measuring 2.2 inches wide, 4.2 inches long and 1.3 inches deep. There are only a few buttons and menu options to confuse the user. Simply start this camera up and go. In two seconds you are ready to start recording. The camera only offers automatic white balance and exposure. With a modest 2x zoom lens that opens up to f2.4, this camera is best suited for close settings. But don’t get too close, the minimum focus distance is 31.5 inches.
If you don’t foresee shooting as much video, you can also purchase a 1Gb version of the camera for slightly less, $149.
