Canon VIXIA HF S10: Hands on and First Impressions at CES
Canon unveiled its newest line of camcorders at this year's CES. Most models offer improved features over their predecessors, but the real cream of the crop this year is the VIXIA HF S10. Read on for video and our impressions of the new VIXIA. (UPDATE: Pricing and release date information has been released)
The Canon VIXIA HF S10 features an all black exterior. The camera felt sturdy and its feature set seemed easy to navigate (as far as I could tell after 2 minutes of playing with it at CES). The VIXIA HF S10 includes 32 GB of internal flash memory and a SDHC card slot for additional storage. The top of the camera features a pop up light that also doubles as a flash as well as a hot shoe for additional accessories such as microphones and lights. Being the top end model of Canon's line it should come as no surprise that this camera also records in full 1080p high definition.
Another unique feature found on the HF S10 is its ability to create 4 second video clips (mentioned in the video above). This is the perfect solution to long, boring home movies. Essentially this feature lets you shoot in 4 second bursts and then play these clips back to your choice of music. 4 seconds didn't seem like very much time, but viewing the demo at CES it seemed to be just about right.
The MSRP for this camera is $1300, so while it's not exactly cheap, it does offer plenty for the money.
